Privacy-first webcam proctoring

Built-in face detection, not recognition, confirms someone is at the screen. It runs on the student's device, with snapshots and an ID check your staff can review.

How it works

  1. Before the first proctored lesson, students see a plain-language consent screen and a camera check.
  2. On-device face detection checks once per second that exactly one face is present. Video never leaves the device.
  3. If no face is seen for 30 seconds, the timer pauses. Multiple faces raise a flag for review.
  4. Small snapshots are taken from time to time and when something is flagged, and stored privately for your staff.
  5. At the start of a course, students take a selfie holding their photo ID, which your staff approve or reject.

What your school controls

  • Proctoring mode: off, presence only, or presence with snapshots
  • How often periodic snapshots are taken (default every 5 minutes)
  • ID check: off, before the course starts, or before the certificate is issued
  • How long snapshots and ID photos are kept (default 180 days after completion)
  • Per-student waivers for students who can't use a camera

Questions

What does the webcam record?

Nothing continuous. Face detection runs on the device; only occasional small snapshots and the ID selfie are uploaded.

Is this facial recognition?

No. It is face detection, not recognition: it checks that a face is present, never who it is.
